Who We Are
We are a community that came together in response to the most recent escalation of the genocide in Gaza, which began in October 2023.
What started as weekly vigils—intended to raise awareness about the relentless assault on Gaza by the illegal settler-colonial, apartheid state of israel and to honor the martyrs—has grown into a powerful collective of organizers. Together, we have recognized the critical need for sustained and unwavering efforts to educate the public, amplify the truth, and make it clear that we will never normalize or be complicit in the face of genocide. We ground all of our actions and work into our unwavering commitment to a free Palestine, from river to sea.
We recognize this not only as our responsibility as american taxpayers, funding the illegal state of israel and its crimes against humanity, but as a moral imperative as human beings. We call for the defunding and dismantling of israel because we understand that all of our liberation is interconnected. We reject the oppressive systems of global racial capitalism and imperialism projects, which exploit humanity and the planet to preserve their power. True freedom cannot exist for any of us until it exists for all of us.
We understand that the struggle for liberation is deeply interconnected, requiring a diversity of tactics to address the complex intersections of oppression. Living within a racist, ableist, capitalist, hegemonic, heteropatriarchal, settler-colonial society, we also recognize the pervasive harm of hyper-individualism. To counter this, we prioritize collective care: we take care of us. We recognize that due to the intersectionality of liberation movements, this requires a diversity of tactics. Our efforts span a range of strategies designed to educate, mobilize, and inspire action. Some of these have included:
Educational initiatives: film screenings and panel discussions, anti-Palestinian racism trainings, and book clubs.
Direct actions: silent vigils, protests, and symbolic events such as our Free Palestine Graduation Commencement.
Cultural events: Birds for Palestine Memorial, tatreez (Palestinian embroidery) presentations, dabke dance lessons, and Arabic music nights.
Abolition-focused advocacy: supporting and upholding the principles of BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions), refusing to normalize police violence, manifesting both locally and globally.
We Uphold the Principles of the Thawabit.
It is essential we: reject colonialism in all its manifestations, denounce normalization in all its forms, support resistance against the zionist movement by any means necessary, free Palestine from occupation from the river to sea with Al Quds as her capital, uphold the right of return for all Palestinians, and preserve Palestinian self-determination and autonomy.
Recognize normalizers of zionism who: condemn armed resistance, center western identity politics to distract from the goal of Palestinian liberation, use two-state terminology, display sympathy over action, criticize BDS, and platform any voices that do not uphold the principles of the Thawabit.
-
Palestinians assert their right to self-determination and sovereignty over their Indigenous land.
-
A total liberation of all occupied Palestinian lands and dismantling of the israeli apartheid state.
-
The right of all displaced and exiled Palestinian refugees to return to their Indigenous homelands. This requires a total dismantlement of the zionist settler colonial state.
-
We defend the right of Palestinians as colonized people to resist the zionist occupation’s genocidal settler colonialism by any means necessary. A diversity of tactics is necessary for the liberation of our communities, and we uphold the right of all oppressed peoples globally to engage in all forms of struggle in pursuit of freedom.
-
Zionism is a settler-colonial white supremacist ideology built on the genocide and dispossession of the Palestinian people. The liberation of Palestine requires the abolition of zionism which means we reject the two-state solution and any “both sides” arguments.
Boycott, divest, sanction. Until liberation.
-
All oppressed, colonized communities are resisting the same allied imperialist empires. Our struggles are directly connected. We have a responsibility to push for the liberation of all people here in the US and globally.
The only way we can win is if we fight for collective liberation together.
